Open to all University of Lincoln Staff, closing date 12th February 2017

IMPact: The University of Lincoln journal of Higher Education Research is a new academic, peer-reviewed, on-line, open-access journal, established in 2017, as the University of Lincoln’s learned journal on higher education research. The focus of the journal is higher education and the contexts within which it takes place. Contributions may include learning and teaching; student experience; student outcomes; local, national and international policy; the values which underpin higher education, including social justice and equality; and the contribution of higher education to society and the economy. The journal is committed to representing many perspectives, promoting a research environment and encouraging wide participation and collaboration. With a focus on higher education research, the journal is multi-disciplinary, valuing insights on higher education emerging from work in different disciplinary areas. It is the intention that IMPact will inform, challenge and influence and as such, will be of interest to a wide readership within and beyond the University of Lincoln. Further information about the journal can be found here.

The inaugural editor, Dr. Karin Crawford, will be leaving her post in March 2018 and therefore, we are seeking to appoint a new editor and invite expressions of interest from interested parties.
The editor works closely with both the Institute, the editorial board, the journal manager and colleagues across the University and is being responsible for promoting the journal and agreeing its overall purpose and direction. He/she is also responsible for advising on the process of reviewing manuscripts and taking decisions on acceptance or rejection of papers. The editor also chairs the editorial board which will meet three times a year. This is a valuable opportunity for professional development and the appointed Editor will be at the forefront of a new and exciting network of colleagues conducting Higher Education Research.

The post is initially for a period of two years from March 2018. Whilst the time commitment needed will vary according to the publication processes, it is estimated to be a maximum of 12 days per year. Interested parties are asked to seek line manager approval before submitting statements of interest. These should not exceed 500 words and should set out their personal details, relevant experience, and ideas concerning the future development of the journal. Applicants should have a broad knowledge and experience of higher education research. Experience of the publishing process would also be an advantage, which may have been gained while serving as a member of an editorial board for example.

Expressions of interest are welcomed from members of staff from across all areas of the University of Lincoln. For further information please contact Karin Crawford kcrawford@lincoln.ac.uk

Expressions of interest should be sent to LHERI@lincoln.ac.uk to arrive by Noon on 12th February 2018. All expressions of interest will be circulated to members of the Editorial Board on 13th February 2018 in advance of consideration at its meeting 14th February 2018 with decisions being announced very shortly thereafter. It is hoped that the new editor will work alongside the outgoing editor to finalise details of the first edition and the official journal launch which is scheduled for April 2018.
