Dr Roger Bretherton
Dr Roger Bretherton is a Principal Lecturer (Enterprise) for The School of Psychology, College of Social Science

“My research area is the psychology of character strengths and virtues, particularly in relation to leadership. This interest extends throughout all my teaching, research and enterprise activities. Recently I have completed a small development project funded by the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education on the role of humility in academic leaders in facilitating work engagement and strengths use in those who report to them. This has been presented as leadership development training to various HEI’s over the last year, including Canterbury Christ Church University, the University of Strathclyde, and the Higher Education OD Network. Implications of the research have also been presented to leaders in external organisations including Lincolnshire Police, BMW, Lindum Construction, Tearfund Relief Agency, and Leadership College London. Findings have been presented to high profile popular audiences in the Royal Albert Hall and the Hammersmith Apollo. Undergraduate students frequently accompany me on these trips for their own learning and I currently co-chair the College of Social Science Enterprise Working Group.”
